On the occasion of the ‘Vie dei Tesori’ I went with the children to visit one of the air raid shelters that the city built on the eve of the Second World War, precisely under the palace of ‘Piazza Pretoria’. Our guide was a French man who told us in detail, with overwhelming empathy, about the period of the war in Palermo. We were literally held hostage by this place, both adults and kids! It was very exciting to find yourself in a piece of history, in the same scene that my grandmother used to describe, when she had to take refuge with my mother and aunt, waiting for the bombs to cease.
I recommend going to visit, it’s really worth it.
